Studies on Leukocyte Alkaline Phosphatase

Abstract
Leukocyte alkaline phosphatase (LAP) activity was analysed by the modified cytochemical method of Kaplow and Cartwright.on the normal Korean women in menstrual cycle, pregnancy,- labor, puerperium and -various complications of pregnancy.
The results were summarized as follows.
1) Average LAP¢¥ score of the normal Korean women at the age of 20-30 -with regular menstrual cycle was 72 (26^-144). This score was lower than that of random, normal Korean women w ithout considering menstrual cycle but higher than that of men.
2) The.LAP score according to menstrual cycle showed the highest value at the ovulation, period determined by basal body temperature and it disclosed the lowest value . immediately after the menstruation. No elevation in LAP score was noticed in
women with anovulatory cycle.
3) In pregnancy, the LAP score disclosed considerable variation, however, it was higher than that of normal women from the early phase of. pregnancy, and it was elevating until-up to 22 weeks of pregnancy and then staying in high score until 39 weeks._ The LAP score showed rather decreasing tendency in full-term pregnancy and was sharply, increased in labor and suddenly dropped in puerperium..
